Zakat al-Fitr is a form of charity given to the poor at the end of the Islamic month of Ramadan, before the Eid al-Fitr prayer. It is obligatory for all Muslims who have enough food to feed themselves and their family for the day. The purpose is to purify those who fast from any indecent act or speech and to help the poor and needy. The amount is typically the equivalent of a few kilograms of staple food in one's community, or its monetary equivalent, and must be given before the Eid prayer. $10 per person.
